I’ve been training at this dojo for about ten years, it’s become a big part of my life.  Even some of my peers and I are national champions. It was a demanding but rewarding experience, but what keeps us going is the sense of teamwork.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child start taking karate?

We welcome students as young as 4 years old. Many families in Town and Country start around age 5, especially after settling into kindergarten routines at places like Mason Ridge Elementary or The Principia School. Karate helps build focus, confidence, and self-control from day one.

Will karate help with my child’s confidence/self-esteem?

Absolutely. Students in our Town and Country program gain confidence through earned progress and structured instruction. Whether your child is shy, energetic, or somewhere in between, karate helps them grow into a stronger version of themselves.

Can karate be used for self-defense?

Yes, but even more importantly, it teaches when and how to act with control. Our Town and Country students gain not just practical skills, but also emotional awareness, calm decision-making, and the discipline to avoid conflict when possible.

Am I too old or out of shape to do karate?

Not at all. We work with adults of all ages and fitness levels, including many parents from the Town and Country area looking for a positive challenge. You don’t need to be in shape to start, you just need to show up.

Will karate make my child more aggressive?

No, in fact, it usually leads to the opposite. Many Town and Country parents notice their child becomes more respectful, patient, and in control after just a few weeks. Karate channels energy into discipline and self-regulation.

Will my child get hurt doing karate?

Safety is built into every class. Our instructors emphasize proper technique, control, and mutual respect. Karate has a lower injury rate than many team sports, especially when taught in a structured, supportive setting like ours.
