Program Description

The Junior Leadership program creates a role known as the 'Deshi (apprentice). Deshi are senior students considered by the principle instructors to be ready to provide leadership to lower ranked karateka in the dojo.

The leadership is not simply technical (i.e. the techniques and principles of karate). Deshi are to promote a focused and solemn attitude. They are responsible for encouraging proper dojo etiquette. They handle logistics such as recording attendance. Importantly, they also learn how to demonstrate, teach and evaluate karate in others.
